Phytoplankton & ULTANA™
What is phytoplankton?
Phytoplankton are microscopic marine algae that live in the ocean and require sunlight to grow. They are among the oldest living organisms on Earth and form the very base of the marine food chain. They are also responsible for producing over 80% of the planet's oxygen.
What is ULTANA™ Phytoplankton?
ULTANA™ is Phytality's proprietary blend of two individually cultivated marine phytoplankton strains. One strain is selected for its higher omega-3 and lipid content; the other for its carotenoid and antioxidant profile. Together they deliver over 75 essential nutrients in whole-plant form, including omega-3 EPA, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Are the phytoplankton strains approved for human consumption?
Yes. Both strains used in ULTANA™ have been extensively tested and are approved for human nutrition in multiple countries.
Why does ULTANA™ contain EPA rather than DHA?
The phytoplankton strains in ULTANA™ naturally produce omega-3 in the EPA form. For those seeking DHA as well, our Clean Omega-3 range provides concentrated DHA from algae oil. The two products complement each other — ULTANA™ provides EPA plus broad-spectrum micro-nutrition, while Clean Omega-3 delivers concentrated DHA.
What are polar lipids and why do they matter?
Polar lipids are a water-compatible form of fat that differs from the triglyceride oils found in fish oil and most algae supplements. Because our digestive system is water-based, polar lipids integrate more readily during absorption. ULTANA™ delivers its omega-3 EPA primarily in this polar lipid form, which is designed to support more efficient uptake compared to standard oil-based omega-3.
How should I take ULTANA™ Phytoplankton?
ULTANA™ powder can be mixed into smoothies, juices, or other foods. Capsules can be taken with water. It has a mild taste compared to other phytoplankton products, making it easy to incorporate into your daily routine.
For ULTANA™ capsules, the current brand recommendation is 4 capsules per day (4 × 500mg). Each bottle of 60 capsules provides a 15-day supply at this intake. The formulation has not changed — only the recommended daily intake has been updated. Customers who have previously taken 2 capsules daily may continue to do so if preferred, but 4 capsules per day is the current packaging guidance.
Clean Omega-3 DHA
Where does your algae oil come from?
Our Clean Omega-3 DHA oil is produced from a natural Schizochytrium micro-algae strain, grown and processed in Europe. It is not genetically optimised — we use a natural heirloom strain.
How is the oil extracted?
We use a solvent-free, water and enzyme-based extraction process — one of the first of its kind globally. This avoids the harsh chemical solvents (such as hexane) commonly used in the industry and preserves the natural integrity of the oil.
What is the DHA concentration?
Our vegetable capsules contain a DHA concentration exceeding 50% in natural triglyceride form. The liquid dropper bottles contain approximately 48% DHA due to the addition of lemon peel extract and natural antioxidants.
Does the algae oil contain iodine?
No. Clean Omega-3 DHA oil itself contains no iodine. The vegetable soft-gel capsules contain a small amount of carrageenan extract from a verified clean, purified source.
How should I store Clean Omega-3 products?
Store both capsules and liquid bottles below 25°C. After opening, refrigerate to maximise shelf life.
What certifications does the algae oil have?
GMP, ISO 22000, Vegan, Kosher, and Halal certified.
Fermented Chlorella
What makes fermented chlorella different from regular chlorella?
Our chlorella is fermented, making it highly digestible without needing to mechanically break the cell wall. This preserves the nutritional lipids in their optimal state and avoids the oxidation that can occur with pulverised chlorella. It is also grown indoors in a fully closed system, producing significantly lower microbial counts and trace heavy metal levels compared to outdoor-grown alternatives.
Is your chlorella grown outdoors?
No. Our chlorella is cultivated indoors in a fully closed system, eliminating the risk of airborne contamination, heavy metal accumulation, and microbial issues that can affect outdoor-grown chlorella.
Sustainability & Sourcing
Is your phytoplankton harvested from the ocean?
No. All Phytality phytoplankton is grown on land in controlled, closed-system facilities. Nothing is taken from the sea. This means we do not compete with marine life for their food source, and our products are free from ocean-borne contaminants.
How is Phytality more sustainable than fish oil?
Fish oil production relies on harvesting fish from already stressed ocean ecosystems, contributing to overfishing and ecosystem disruption. Phytality's land-based production uses sunlight, recycled water, no pesticides, and solvent-free extraction — producing zero marine depletion.
Are your products organic?
Our manufacturing processes follow organic principles and are chemical-free. However, because our algae is grown on land in controlled environments rather than in an ocean setting, current organic certification standards do not yet have a pathway for this type of production. Our closed-system approach guarantees high purity and contaminant-free status.
