Our Origins
Where It Started
In 2007, our founder Mark Pages began researching plant-based alternatives to fish and krill oil while living in Europe. What started as a personal commitment to finding genuinely effective vegan omega-3 sources became a decade-long journey into marine biotechnology.
Mark invested years working at senior levels alongside Europe's leading phytoplankton biotech innovators — marine biologists, process engineers, and food scientists. Together, they developed one of Northern Europe's first closed-system phytoplankton cultivation facilities, designed for large-scale, controlled-environment production of nutrient-rich micro-algae.

The Science Behind the Brand
Phytality was not built on marketing. It was built on research.
Over more than 15 years, Mark and our European partners developed proprietary approaches to phytoplankton cultivation, extraction, and formulation. This includes our flagship ULTANA™ Phytoplankton blend — a two-strain formulation that took six years of research and development before its first launch in Europe in 2015.
Our Clean Omega-3 range draws on the same depth of expertise. Working with specialist producers, Phytality pioneered the use of water and enzyme-based extraction for algae oil — avoiding the harsh chemical solvents commonly used in the industry. A Swiss-designed purification process then refines the oil to exceptional clarity and purity.

Our phytoplankton journey began in Northern Europe in 2009. Since then, Phytality has grown from a pioneering European micro-algae operation into a globally distributed brand, now serving customers across the UK, Europe, Australia, and beyond.
